BC United leads UBCM roundtable on B.C.’s rising cost of living

VANCOUVER (September 21, 2023) – Amidst the soaring cost of living in B.C. under David Eby and the NDP, the BC United Caucus convened a roundtable at the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) convention today to discuss the pressing need for action to help alleviate the financial burden on people, small businesses, and municipalities.

“Fifty-two percent of British Columbians are within $200 of not being able to make ends meet,” said BC United Leader Kevin Falcon. “The cost of living crisis has driven up food, rent and housing prices to record levels, placing immense pressure on families and individuals who are struggling to stay afloat. Instead of pretending to worry about cost of living by writing to the independent Bank of Canada Governor about interest rates, David Eby should focus on the 29 new and increased taxes the NDP have imposed on British Columbians since 2017. Despite all of the promises made to make life more affordable, David Eby and the NDP have failed to make any real difference in the affordability of fuel, groceries, and housing.”

The BC United Caucus is committed to working collaboratively with municipalities and stakeholders to implement practical measures that will make a real difference in the lives of British Columbians.
