Recession looms for B.C. as economic conditions worsen under David Eby’s NDP

VICTORIA (December 4, 2023) – B.C.’s Economic Forecast Council confirms David Eby and the NDP’s middle-class squeeze is leading the province towards near-recessionary conditions, with the economy struggling in the face of a lack of private sector investment and inflationary deficits.

“While people are finding it more difficult than ever to make ends, there is no relief on the horizon under this NDP government,” said Peter Milobar, BC United Shadow Minister for Finance. “Experts are predicting worsening inflation, a decline in housing completions, and slowing economic growth over the next few years. These conditions will have a direct negative impact on everyday people — and this NDP government has no plan in place to deal with the fallout or grow the economy. In fact, their disastrous ‘CostBC’ scheme is set to tank our economy for years to come.”

The Economic Forecast Council highlighted a number of key areas in which B.C. is set to struggle in the near future, including confirming that the NDP’s “CleanBC” plan and lack of private sector investment is negatively impacting the economy. Additionally, they found that B.C. has not done enough planning for the massive “grey wave” as people retire and more retirees move to B.C.
